The Olympics and how times Change

Well I'm gonna try to do a serious post right now. I have been a fan of the Olympics since I was able to go to some events in Atlanta in 1996. I have always enjoyed the competition of country against country and everyone giving their best effort. It is always fun to see sports that are not regularly on TV take over NBC for two straight weeks. The stories of the athletes and the bitter sweet feelings of the Olympics have always been one of the things that always attracts me every 4 years. It is always exciting to see the new faces of the US that will represent this country for the next few years, but it is always sad to say good bye to the athletes that have competed for this country.

What to Look Forward To
If you are a fan of swimming and diving it looks like you are gonna have a lot to look forward to the next few years. With many of the stars and medal winners from the swim team saying the will return for Rio should have fans excited. The US will probably always have a strong presence in the Track and Field events and it seems many starts can compete into their 30's. Men's and Women's basketball will probably always be a strong team showing for the US. The US will probably always be strong in the events the do well in and DJ Gallo from ESPN seems to have the fool proof system about how to make the US better in the not as famous sports.

Saying Goodbye
Obviously the big name who said goodbye this Olympics is Michael Phelps. I am a believer this is his final Olympics even though many doubt. This guy has just been so fun to watch over his career. 22 total medals, 18 of which are gold. The only person I could see given that total record count a run for the money is Missy Franklin. We say goodbye to the team of Misty Mae-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings. These ladies never lost a match during their 3 time Olympic run. They also have a 97% winning percentage in sets (42 of 43). Coach K and Kobe Bryant have both said this will be the last time they represent USA in the Olympics. Both of these guys really sacrificed much and put their country before their careers to help regain dominance in basketball. Most gymnasts only compete in one Olympics. There are many others who have probably made their final decision that I don't know and many others who might not be able to make it in four years. If any of the athletes ever see this I appreciate everyone representing the USA

Growth in Four Years
Many of the other things that I like to reflect upon are the changes that happen over 4 years. I feel that I have grown immensely in my relationship with Jesus. I hope and pray that my relationship with him goes even deeper the next four years and that in all I do I honor him. I pray and hope who ever reads this that you have that relationship.  I graduated from college since the last Olympics. I am looking forward to the next four years and what they have in store. Maybe I will find out teaching is my true calling or maybe another job awaits in a different field. Hey whatever happens I know I am not alone.
